I was Wearing My Ipod At Bikram Hot Yoga

So today was my 3rd day at the Bikram Hot Yoga.

Yesterday I was a having a conversation with an individual that has been doing yoga for 10 years.  Wow! I can’t imagine doing this for 10 years, was my first thought.

All of a sudden the thought went through my head, WoW! wonder how I would feel if I was doing this for 10 years?

Rule #1 for taking on new adventures: As much as you want to have a focus of the future accomplishments.  Make sure most of your focus is on the present enjoyments of the journey.

I was actually excited to go to my 3rd class, and actually found myself looking forward to it.

This time I ate a small bowl of granola with almond milk 1 hour prior to class.

About 1 hour into the class, I started getting hungry again.    That is when I started thinking it would be a lot easier to survive the next 30 minutes if I had my ipod. :)

That is when it occurred to me. Fred, change your mindset -

“You are not here to survive the time – you are here to cherish the minutes that you are experiencing.

The good, the bad, and the ugly.”

As soon as I changed my mindset – it felt like an entirely new class.  I felt rejuvenated, excited and mentally focused.

LESSON LEARNED: Change the way you look at things and the things you look at will change.  That also reflects with the people that cross our paths – Change the way we look at people and the people we look at change.

That is so true Fred. It is amazing to me all of the insight you have. It is a rare thing to find in business someone who has a business mindset but a relaxed and open attitude.

    • fredsarkari says:

Thanks for the kind words Ivan. Not sure I can say I have the complete balance of the business mindset and the relaxed attitude. But that is what this is all about. Everything you grow you realize how little you really know. :)

  2. ivan says:

I do still want to wear my ipod one day though.

  3. Leah Esplen says:

I think wearing an ipod would be a great tool for those who are not quite into the groove of self-awareness that yoga requires. Sometimes you need a little extrinsic motivation!

    • fredsarkari says:

Leah, I am with you there. I still struggle at about 1:10 minutes into it. The last 20 min. I could use a distraction of the mind. Yes yes, I know the whole point is to get rid of the distractions of the mind.

  4. Yoga Rani says:

This was so funny to read. I like your realization that you don’t need the I-Pod, but the ability to focus within, to not go for the distraction. Be careful not to overdo stretches in the hot room. Ligaments are for life.

    Blessings,
    Yoga Rani

    • fredsarkari says:

Thank for the advice – I think I did over stretch a little yesterday so decided to take the day off today.

LIfe is all about making fun of our own realizations. :)

I hope to one day call myself a Yogi as well.

  5. Mike says:

Music, even in the background, can go along way to change your mood.

When I am working in front of the computer for long periods of time … on goes the music.

I love the picture. My wife thought it was you!

    • fredsarkari says:

Mike, I always have my music on. Depending on what I am working on or my mood the music changes.

I wish that was me in the picture.

  6. Yoga Rani says:

The heat can make you feel you are more flexible than you are. If you have pain, you should ice the area you overstretched.

You are well on your way to being a Yogi.

    Namaskar,
    Yoga Rani

  7. Yoga Rani says:

Yogi training is all in the mind. Hope you are meditating. Icing the monkey-mind so to speak.

    Namaskar,
    Rani

    • fredsarkari says:

Rani, I went yesterday and my focus was to make sure I have an internal smile through every move. No matter how good or bad.

What a difference, I had the best session ever.

  8. Yoga Rani says:

Awesome, Fred! Keep up the good work!

  9. Debbie and Randy says:

With the awakening of Spring, as I once rememberd it, is upon us, taking walks and maybe even pushing our Grandchild for long walks by the river is going to commence. Jaxson’s Favorite song right now is ” Don’t Worry, Be Happy”. Now it is mine too. Can you get that on the ipad? Hot Yoga. Heard its great. Keep up the encouraging words! Cheers

    • fredsarkari says:

I do not know what those kids of yours feed Jaxson? He is one big boy. :)

Love that song and yes will have to get it loaded for the next time I see him.

Thanks Debbie, I will keep sharing my thoughts and experiences.

  10. Yoga Rani says:

How is your Yoga practice going Fred?

Focusing more on the body from the toes on up and observing the breath, I hope!
    :~)

  11. Yoga Rani says:

Don’t worry be happy, but still go out and vote!

  12. fredsarkari says:

Yoga practice is going great. Had to take today and tomorrow off. Will be back on friday.

Feeling a great progression in the physical due to a shift in the mental.

    Thanks for checking in

  13. Yoga Rani says:

That’s great, Fred. It’s not a big deal if you have to take a day off for whatever reason, whether for being just ridiculously busy or just listening to the body saying, “rest”.Main thing is to have a commitment to yourself and to be regular, and to be in svadyaya during practice, then the shifts in the mind will start happening.

  14. Mads says:

“Change the way we look at people and the people we look at change.”

That quote is so great and such a great way to see life.

  15. Yoga Rani says:

Yes Mads, it’s true when we change our perspective, everything changes. Everything except Stephen Harper, that is. Visit http://www.100reasons.ca before you vote!

  16. Taylor says:
