Bikram Yoga Like Golf?

Today I went to my second class of Bikram Hot Yoga.  Wanted to try the 6:15 am class.  I must admit, I kicked and screamed my way out of bed.  Its amazing how many times I had to consciously talk myself into going.

I wonder at times how many things that we want to try and do in life that we talk ourselves out of without even realizing we keep doing it?

I was a little sore and tight from yesterday.  But knowing what to expect from the class it went a little easier.  What did not go easier are the hunger pains.  Due to the early rise of the class, all I ate was an apple.  My stomach actually started making noises in class.

It got me thinking about the progression of yoga.  Golfers always say that in the beginning, golf is a frustrating game.  Until the most amazing thing happens that gets you hooked for life.  Your first beautiful shot, lucky as it may be.

After that all you want is more.  Swimmers say the same about learning how to swim, one day it just clicks.

I have yet to experience that in either golf or swimming, but I will take their word for it.

So I wonder if that is the same for Yoga?

Watching some of these people with their postures and flexibility, it seems like it would take me a lifetime to achieve.

Could the secret be not to focus on the end goal and just enjoy the journey.  In doing so you can be more aware of the daily progression, mental and physical.

8:30 am – Did 90 minutes of hot yoga, showered, ate breakfast and just finished a post.  That alone is something to celebrate.

Yeah for going back! and even a bigger congrats for getting out of bed that early.

My instructor Julie from Kelowna Hot Yoga reminds me that yoga is indeed a PRACTICE. Of course we want to push ourselves, but she reminds me to focus on embracing what the body can do that day, in that moment.

Curious to know what you like best about it so far?

Yes yes yes – true test of not only focusing on the moment, but actually cherishing the moment.

Good question, what do I like the most. Other than the obvious which I won’t physically write out. :)

For me is the stretching out. Body feels so good when the tightness is stretched out.

Hot yoga, you sweat so much that you not only get a good work out but you walk out feeling you did as well.

Fred, it is such an amazing thing. I am so glad you are spreading the good word.

The secret to going is to go to that early class. It is a little bit cooler temperature then the other times.

I once went to a class after a class that had just been there on and I thought I was going to die.

I wish you had told me that a few days ago – I found out the hard way. Wow! – I thought I was going to pass out.

Hot Yoga fixed my back in 2 weeks (6 sessions) from 10 years of pain. I stopped going and 6 months later it is back to hurting. If you do life long yoga you will not need a cane, you will not get debilitating movement issues, no wheelchairs, I guarantee it!

    • fredsarkari says:

Ken, so happy for you that it helped your back. And you have no idea how much it has inspired me to keep going and not give up on it.

      Thanks

Come by Iceland and I will help you get that experience in swimming.
Like life it is all about balance.
